(2)  HISTORY OF THE PEACE MOVEMENT

The Peace movement has played only a minor role in American history. The War Team always keeps the Peace movement suppressed. However, there have been several well known peace activists in American history, including:

1. William Jennings Bryan, politician. He opposed American involvement in World War 1.

2. Henry Ford, businessman. He tried to arrange peace negotiations during World War 1, but was unsuccessful.

3. Charles Lindbergh, aviator. He opposed American involvement in World War 2.

4. President John Kennedy. He opposed American involvement in the Vietnam War and tried to normalize relations with Russia. He was murdered by the Ruling Class in 1963 and replaced with Lyndon Johnson who then started a major war in Vietnam.

5. Senator Robert Kennedy.  He opposed the Vietnam War and ran for president in 1968.  He was murdered by the Ruling Class in 1968.

6. Senator Ted Kennedy.  He has called for an end to the Iraq War.

7.  Senator Eugene McCarthy.  He ran as an anti-war candidate in the 1968 presidential campaign.

8.  Senator George McGovern.  He ran as an anti-war candidate in the 1972 presidential campaign.

7. John Lennon, musician. He wrote several songs promoting peace and participated in several events promoting peace during the Vietnam War.

8. Neil Young, musician. He wrote the song Ohio to protest the Kent State murders in 1970.

9.  Bruce Springsteen, musician.  He wrote the song Devils and Dust to protest the Iraq War.

10. Jane Fonda, actress.  She visited Hanoi in 1972 to protest the Vietnam War.

11.  President Jimmy Carter, politician.  He promotes peace with the Carter Center organization.

12. Pat Buchanan, politician. He wrote the book "A Republic, not an Empire", which called for limitations on American imperialism.

13. Justin Raimondo, journalist. Contributor to the antiwar.com website.

14. William Rivers Pitt, journalist.  Contributor to the truthout.org website.

15. Cindy Sheehan, peace activist.  Her son Casey Sheehan was shot and killed in the Iraq war on April 4, 2004.

These individuals have courageously taken a stand against war.

As wars continue in Iraq and Afghanistan, the current Peace movement is rather weak. A few celebrities and journalists have spoken out against the war. Only a few politicians in the United States have opposed the war. This is quite disappointing. Let us work towards convincing the War Team to stop the war.

(4)  WARS PROSECUTED BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT

Over the past 150 years, the United States government has prosecuted many wars of aggression.  A list of these wars is given below.

1.  The American Civil War,  1861 - 1865.  Approximately 600,000 people were killed.
2.  World War 1,  1914 - 1918.  Millions of people were killed.
3.  World War 2,  1939 - 1945.  Millions of people were killed.
4.  The Cold War,  1946 - 1991.  Thousands of people were killed.
5.  The Korean War,  1950 - 1953.  Thousands of people were killed.
6.  The Vietnam War,  1964 - 1975.  Thousands of people were killed.
7.  The First Iraq War,  1991.  Thousands of people were killed.
8.  The Serbian War,  1999.  Hundreds of people were killed.
9.  War on Terror,  2001 - 2005.  Thousands of people have been killed.
10.  The Afghanistan War,  2001 - 2002.  Thousands of people were killed.
11.  The Second Iraq War,  2003 - 2007.  Thousands of people have been killed.

Since the American Civil War began in 1861, the United States government has killed millions of people throughout the world.  This is a major crime that should be rectified.

Kent State 2

Ohio National Guard soldiers launch tear gas canisters at Kent State students on May 4, 1970.  Notice the contrast between the heavily armed soldiers and the harmless students.
